Mrs. Newton is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Iowa. Her primary areas of practice include family law, mediation, criminal defense, OWI/DUI and Traffic defense, and plaintiff’s personal injury. Mrs. Newton is fluent in English and Spanish and conversational in French.
She received her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from The University of Iowa in 2010. She graduated Cum Laude in May 2013 from Northern Illinois University College of Law.
During Law School Mrs. Newton interned at the Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s Office, where she assisted prosecutors write motions and memorandums on behalf of the state and conducted many bench and jury trials. She also worked for the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid at the College of Law as a Special Assistant to the Director of Admissions. There she helped further the recruitment efforts of the College of Law by hosting open house sessions and meeting individually with prospective students. Mrs. Newton was also very active with on campus organizations including the Women’s Law Caucus, the Latina/o Law Student Association where she served as Vice President, the Black Law Student Association, the Public Interest Law Society, and the Student Bar Association. She also served as Attorney General for the National Latina/o Law Student Association during the years of 2012 and 2013. Mrs. Newton competed in several moot court competitions during law school and her team made it to quarters and won Best Respondent’s Brief at a national moot court competition in 2012.
Ms. Newton is married and has three children. She is a long-time resident of the Quad Cities. Although much of her spare time outside of the courtroom and office is spent raising her three children and running them around to sports, music lessons and other extra-curricular activities, she enjoys volunteering. Ms. Newton is heavily involved in the community and many non-profit organizations. She routinely attends many charitable events and is a committed member of several organizations.
Mrs. Newton is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, the Scott County Bar Association, and the Rock Island County Bar Association.
